Bruxelles' Tunnel of Trees

Bruxelles, Belgium
December 02, 2015 by Matt Spangard

When most people think Brussels, they think: "is that somewhere in Europe?" What they don't realize is that Brussels has brought us chocolate, waffles, trappist beer and french fries!

Brussels is also one of the most design-centric cities in the world. Can you imagine any other city painting the trunks of their trees to match the nearby pathways and walls?

BONUS: Are you thinking about getting a drone this holiday season? If you are, I put together a quick video as part of Edison Nation's "25 Days of 520 Elliot" web special on how to keep it safe and make sure it doesn't enter "Return to China" mode.

You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vevsL4_mgAo

Streetcar Named Forgotten

Wesley Heights, Charlotte
December 01, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Before they were shuttered, these relics once shuttled commuters around Charlotte from 1891-1938. The one in the back was converted to a unique "tiny house" three quarters of a century before it became a popular HGTV show. The current owners of these trollies hope to some day restore them — and their routes — to their original glory.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone. The sonar built into the latest model made flying inside the warehouse a breeze!

Taking Flight

Disney's Epcot
November 30, 2015 by Matt Spangard

This angel resides in "Italy" at Disney's World Showcase at Epcot. It's just sort of tucked out of the way from the all of the craziness that is Disney and is a nice place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and reflect on the awesome vision of Walt Disney.

This photograph was captured with an iPhone 6.

Just Breathe

Somewhere Along the Florida Keys
November 29, 2015 by Matt Spangard

It's that time of year when we make the mad dash from Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Years Eve. Things are about to get crazy as they always do. Don't forget to take a break from time to time and just breathe. Bookmark this page and come back and relax for a minute along the shore of the Florida Keys. Relax as you realize that waves are softly breaking over this same pile of coral rocks right now as they have done for hundreds of years. It's a peaceful place for reflection.

Time moves fast. Make sure you enjoy it along the way.

The View From The Vue

Charlotte, NC
November 28, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Charlotte is growing so quickly that it seems every skyline photo is different! This is the view from the West side of Uptown, looking over Fourth Ward.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.

Isle of Palms Marina Sunset

Isle of Palms, SC
November 27, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Today's photo moves! I shot this video with my DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone this past summer while on vacation. The sunsets are almost always amazing in and around Charleston so I try to get in as much airtime as possible during that magical hour.

Set Sail for Gold

Paris, France
November 25, 2015 by Matt Spangard

The Luxembourg Gardens have long been one of the most-beloved places for Parisians to relax and enjoy life. And for good reason! No trip to Paris is complete without a stroll through the gardens.

While entering the gates, you get a collective sense of all those who have walked the gardens before you. Like a young Ernest Hemingway, who used to stay behind after closing to hunt pigeons with a homemade slingshot to feed his family between paychecks.

And just as quickly, you are brought back to the here and now as you approach the Grand Basin and you see all of the children, with their sticks in hand, happily navigating their wooden sailboats across the small pond.

Life is good.

This photograph was captured with a Nikon D90.

Cold Day in Zephyr Cove

Lake Tahoe, CA
November 24, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Zephyr Cove is a quaint little lakeside retreat on Lake Tahoe. It's one of the last milestones that you tick off on your way from the Reno airport to Stateline, which is the developed portion of Lake Tahoe that is host to Heavenly Valley. It's pretty quiet in the winter time — I think we suited up for a snowmobile tour there once many years ago. I bet it's a great place to relax in the summer but in the winter it always seems like one of the coldest spots on the lake to me.

This photograph was taken many moons ago with a very old Sony Cybershot something or other. Sony sure has come a long way since then!

Carefree

Charleston, SC
November 23, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Now that it's getting colder out, I find myself wishing for the carefree days of summer... like the day I spent following boats around Charleston Harbor.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.
