Seoul Food

Charlotte, North Carolina
May 02, 2017 by Matt Spangard

As soon as the signs went up at Seoul Food, I knew I was going to love it. I have no idea how it took me a year to finally make the pilgrimage but it was worth the wait!

Not only is the food great but the giant patio is perfect on a sunny day. Along with soccer pool tables (or football snooker tables, depending on your disposition), they have three distinct Karaoke rooms that you can rent out for private parties, each with it's own theme. I need to head back some night and photograph the rooms in action. If you've got a crazy night planned there soon, let me know!

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Simon Climbing Inner Peaks

Charlotte, North Carolina
April 18, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Our kids had a great time scrambling up the walls at Inner Peaks. Inner Peaks is Charlotte's largest indoor climbing gym and a great time, especially on a rainy day.

Purple Charlotte

Charlotte, North Carolina
April 14, 2017 by Matt Spangard

This is the view of Uptown Charlotte from SouthPark. Many people know that Charlotte is known for it's trees. Charlotte joins several other cities around the country with the nickname, "City of Trees." Looking at this image, you can see we've earned it!

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Professional drone.

Trader Joe's and the QC

Charlotte, North Carolina
April 07, 2017 by Matt Spangard

I think it's interesting the way ring roads — in this case, I-277 — serve as a boundary for major urban development. Charlotte has since spilled over past 277 but you can see how it also helped increase the density of Uptown along the way.

In the foreground is Midtown, anchored by the Trader Joe's.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.

Carolina Blue Dilworth Church

Charlotte, North Carolina
April 02, 2017 by Matt Spangard

I hate to use our beautiful church as a metaphor for the UNC victory last night but this photo has been in my queue for about a month and I just realized I had titled it "Carolina Blue Dilworth Church" so it seems quite appropriate. I'm sure plenty of people were praying for a win last night, too.

If you live in Charlotte and you haven't visited Dilworth Church, you should check it out. It's a historic church and the 11am service is traditional but not stuffy at all.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Cherry Neighborhood

Charlotte, North Carolina
March 31, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Happy Friday from the Queen City!

I was testing out some new drone mapping systems over Cherry this week and managed to take a few photos of the city. This buildings in the foreground are all part of the Metropolitan in Midtown. I was both surprised and not at all surprised by the volume of historic Cherry homes being torn down and replaced with row upon row of townhomes.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.

Stonewall Construction

Charlotte, North Carolina
March 23, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Commercial construction has been in full swing in Charlotte for a long time now. If you are a Charlottean, you've probably read quite a bit about the "Stonewall Corridor" construction. Here's a birds-eye view of that corridor. The last band of buildable land inside I-277 is now spoken for and under construction. It's still hard to believe the Charlotte Observer building is gone!

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.

If you are a Charlotte commercial developer and need help documenting your construction progress from the air, let me know! I'm now an FAA-certified commercial drone operator.

This is the Inner Peaks climbing center in Charlotte. What a fun place! Also, I want that fan for my garage.

Historic West End at Twilight

Charlotte, North Carolina
March 03, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Savona Mill and Blue Blaze Brewing are just 10 minutes from Uptown via the Greenway. The view from Historic West End gives a unique perspective of the city, bookended by Bank of America Stadium and Gateway Village.

Have plans this weekend? If you're in Charlotte, check out the West End and have a couple of pints at the area's pioneering brewery, Blue Blaze Brewing.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.
