Two Years of #PhotoJambo

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
October 15, 2017 by Matt Spangard

On October 16, 2015, I challenged myself to post a new photo every day for a year. Today marks two years of daily #PhotoJambo photos.

Today also marks a new beginning for PhotoJambo. Rather than focus on the method of creating and sharing something new every day, I'm going to take more time between posts so I can get those edits perfect and create more feature-based work.

Thanks to everyone around the world for their support over these past two years. If you want to throw a little more support my way, please spend 5 seconds to vote for my entry in the Triple Aught Design Fall Film Festival. Every vote counts and I really appreciate your support!

THANK YOU!

Southport Gazebo

Southport, North Carolina
October 05, 2017 by Matt Spangard

We visited Southport for the first time last weekend. It was a quintessential North Carolina coastal town with a waterfront stretch of a dozen restaurants and bars. We had a great time relaxing with the kids and Lori's parents and even ran into some old friends who used to be our neighbors 15 years ago (Hi Dena & Lisa!).

This photo was captured with a DJI Mavic pro drone and a PolarPro Cinema Series filter.

Perched high atop Beech Mountain in North Carolina, 5506' Skybar is the highest taproom east of the Rocky Mountains.

360° Sunrise on Beech Mountain

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
September 01, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Just another beautiful morning on Beech Mountain! One of my favorite features of the DJI Mavic Pro is that you can rotate the camera into portrait mode while it is in flight and then shoot super high resolution panoramas. This photo captures exactly 360° to the pixel.

If you'd like to visit Beech Mountain this fall for leaf season or this winter for ski season, check out Slopeside!

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic pro drone.

Beech Mountain Alarm Clock

Slopeside
August 10, 2017 by Matt Spangard

This was my alarm clock yesterday on Beech Mountain. The mile-high sunrises are spectacular up on the mountain. It pays to be the highest town east of the Rockies, as the fog rolls through all of the valleys below.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic pro drone.

Fishing Pier

Sunshine Skyway Bridge
August 05, 2017 by Matt Spangard

The massive fishing piers next to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge that connects St. Petersburg to Bradenton have an interesting genesis. Once upon a time, they WERE the bridge. At least until a boat with a beam higher than the bridge tried to pass below, taking the middle of the bridge out with it. Rather than repair the aging bridge, they build a new, taller bridge that would allow larger cargo and cruise ships into the Port of Tampa. They dismantled the middle section of the old bridge but left hundreds of yards on each side intact and converted them to giant fishing piers. What we have now is a very expensive take on turning lemons into lemonade.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.

Riviera Maya

El Dorado Royale
August 03, 2017 by Matt Spangard

It's hard to beat the turquoise waters of Mexico's Riviera Maya. The colors continuously change throughout the day and night as the clouds filter sunlight on to the reefs and sand below the water. It's beautiful from the beach but when you get an aerial view with a drone, it's absolutely spectacular.

This particular stretch of water is at one of my favorite Caribbean resorts, El Dorado Royale.

To see how the clouds cycle the color of the water right before your eyes, check out the video that I created from our last trip to El Dorado Royale.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.
