Two Years of #PhotoJambo

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
October 15, 2017 by Matt Spangard

On October 16, 2015, I challenged myself to post a new photo every day for a year. Today marks two years of daily #PhotoJambo photos.

Today also marks a new beginning for PhotoJambo. Rather than focus on the method of creating and sharing something new every day, I'm going to take more time between posts so I can get those edits perfect and create more feature-based work.

Thanks to everyone around the world for their support over these past two years. If you want to throw a little more support my way, please spend 5 seconds to vote for my entry in the Triple Aught Design Fall Film Festival. Every vote counts and I really appreciate your support!

THANK YOU!

This photo is a panorama of three photos captured with a DJI Mavic pro drone and a PolarPro Cinema Series filter.

Caribbean Beach

El Dorado Royale
August 24, 2017 by Matt Spangard

The beach and water at El Dorado Royale is perfect. It's hard to find a more peaceful experience than relaxing on a king-size bed cabana while listening to the waves lap the shore. If you book a stay at El Dorado Royale, be sure to stay in the Casitas. In addition to the bigger rooms, en-suite outdoor showers and private pools for each set of Casitas, they also include exclusive access to the beachside cabanas on the private Casitas beach.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Mountains for Miles

Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina
August 17, 2017 by Matt Spangard

In keeping with my post from yesterday, here's a mid-afternoon drone photo from the mountains. If you haven't watched the short film that I submitted to the 2017 Triple Aught Design Fall Film Festival yesterday, you can check it out here... and don't forget to vote (please!).

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic pro drone.

Smooth Waves

Wild Dunes

Summer Fridays leave me dreaming of the ocean... at least when I'm not actually playing in it.

Blue Ridges on Beech Mountain

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
July 19, 2017 by Matt Spangard

I'll never get tired of the morning views at Slopeside on top of Beech Mountain. There's a reason the first thing I do when we arrive is set up the tripod so it's ready to go. It's a different painting every morning!

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

The Fort Sumter House

White Point Garden, Charleston, South Carolina
July 18, 2017 by Matt Spangard
In President Kennedy's own words: "They shipped my ass out of town to break us up."

I've always been fascinated by this building that just doesn't quite fit in South of Broad.

I did a little research on it and learned that President John F. Kennedy was stationed in Charleston for a brief period and spent three nights in this hotel turned condominium building with a former Miss Denmark who had connections to the Nazis. The FBI monitored the entire thing and reassigned him to a PT boat in the Pacific after sharing the information with his influential father.

El Dorado Royale

El Dorado Royale
June 28, 2017 by Matt Spangard

When you are down there, wandering through El Dorado Royale, you know it's a massive place but I never really understood the sheer scale of the project until seeing it from above.

This photograph was captured by turning the camera on my DJI Mavic Pro sideways, so it was in portrait mode, and then taking a dozen vertical photographs and later stitching them together back home. If you zoom in, you can see each pod of casitas in the middle, the family resort on the far right and the original resort on the far left.

Fun fact: nearly all of Bob and Christa Mason's wedding guests are somewhere in this photograph, getting ready for the ceremony.
