Geometry Wars

Playa Mujeres, Mexico
December 26, 2015 by Matt Spangard

If the East Coast isn't going to embrace winter, I think I'll just go with it. Here's an aerial photograph of the wonderful Secrets Playa Mujeres. The resort is about 30 minutes and a lifetime away from Cancún.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone. You can learn more about it on the Gear page.

All Christmas Eve preparations are complete. And so, we pass the baton on to Santa to take care of the rest. Looking forward to the some genuine "Wii freakouts" in the morning!

Merry Christmas!

Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men

Barcelona, Spain
December 24, 2015 by Matt Spangard

These doves can be found high atop La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The sheer vision of Gaudí in his design of La Sagrada Familia is as immense as the structure itself, with small details like these hundreds of feet up in the air.

May this holiday season bring you peace and goodwill to all.

Fort Sumter I

Charleston Harbor, South Carolina
December 23, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Located in Charleston Harbor, Fort Sumter is one of the most important and well-known forts in American history. Only accessible by boat, visiting is like taking a step back through time. I took off across the channel near Fort Moultrie on Sullivans Island and covered the mile or so by air, zipping past all of the boats entering the harbor. It's not quite the same as stepping foot on the hallowed ground that is Fort Sumter but I gained a different perspective and was able to do the round trip in 15 minutes, rather than the usual half-day boat excursion.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.

Lowcountry by Boat

Charleston, South Carolina
December 21, 2015 by Matt Spangard

This photo feels right at home with the unseasonably warm weather we've been having in the Southeast this winter. This is one of the barrier islands on the north side of Charleston, taken while aboard the Delphinus.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

Parisian Metro II

Paris, France
December 19, 2015 by Matt Spangard

The art nouveau metro stops of European cities like Paris and Barcelona really set their style apart from the rest of the pack with their more modern, more legible and more boring alternatives. Look at that sign. What a great first thing to see when climbing the stairs from the underground tunnels of the metro. This particular stop is on the Louvre block so the background doesn't hurt, either.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

Gull's View

Isle of Palms, South Carolina
December 18, 2015 by Matt Spangard

By now, you've probably figured out that I love the IOP Marina! Soaring with the birds 400 feet above the marina is even better than sitting on the dock watching the boats go by... but neither is a match for heading out into the water by boat.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone. It's probably not too late to get one for Christmas!

Lake Tahoe at Speed

Lake Tahoe, NV
December 17, 2015 by Matt Spangard

You know how the photos you take of the amazing views from your car window always get ruined by a semi truck or a set of utility poles? I finally managed to capture one with neither! I present to you Lake Tahoe at Speed. There was a fantastic storm rolling over the mountains as we were driving into town. Since I wasn't driving, I thought I'd hang my head out the window and see what I could do.

This photograph really captures the feeling that I had looking out the window with the reflection of the ominous clouds on the Lake and the promise of a sunny day right around the corner.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.
