I saw this carving on a kiosk in Harambe Village at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I took a photo of it while the kids were in a gift shop. I didn't think much about it at the time — other than that it was a nice little piece of art. In hindsight, though, I really wish I had bought it. I'm not sure when our next trip to Disney will be but if they're still selling these carvings, I'm going to buy it on the spot.

The South Carolina Aquarium has added a Sea Turtle Care Center, which is a working exhibit designed to aid sick and injured sea turtles, ultimately returning them to the ocean once they're healthy. They even have sea turtle ambulances that are dispatched to recover injured turtles quickly for the help they require at the Care Center.

Just another day on Beech Mountain. The deer population here is off the charts and it's not uncommon to see a dozen in a day but it never gets old... Especially when they bring their babies out for a shaky walk around town.

We went hiking in the NC mountains this weekend and found a fork in the trail. Channeling our inner Yogi Berra, we took it. We ended up on a narrow, overgrown path that led straight up the mountain. It opened into an old service road, which we took back to the trailhead. Along the way, our four year-old was convinced she had discovered "Butterfly World" and I think she might be right. Dozens of butterflies were on the trail and at least one was always at our side along the entire walk.

Baby elephants remind me of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The younger they are, the older they look. This little one was playing in the water with his mom on the Kilimanjaro Safari and seemed to be having the time of his life.
