Plotagraph: Fire Rings of the Lion King

The Festival of the Lion King at Disney's Animal Kingdom is a great show. We always make a point to get a Fast Pass for it. We missed the Fast Pass window, though, on our last visit because a rogue giraffe stranded our truck out on Kilimanjaro Safaris for about a half an hour.

We ran to the Lion King show as soon as our safari tour was over but missed our window so we had to enter in the "regular" line about two minutes before the show started. They took us into the theater and sat us down right on the floor in front of the show!

Despite the fact that they pulled me up onto the stage and made me grunt like a warthog in front of the entire show, it was a great bit of luck! Stay tuned for many front-row photographs from the Festival of the Lion King in the coming months!

Warthog Carving

I saw this carving on a kiosk in Harambe Village at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I took a photo of it while the kids were in a gift shop. I didn't think much about it at the time — other than that it was a nice little piece of art. In hindsight, though, I really wish I had bought it. I'm not sure when our next trip to Disney will be but if they're still selling these carvings, I'm going to buy it on the spot.

Tusker Lager

We could have stayed in the Nomad Lounge all day. The only thing better than the peaceful, African-themed atmosphere was the food. Now that Avatar is open, it's probably not quite the secret it used to be but if you need a place to relax and enjoy a terrific lunch, check out the Nomad Lounge.

Family Life

Baby elephants remind me of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The younger they are, the older they look. This little one was playing in the water with his mom on the Kilimanjaro Safari and seemed to be having the time of his life.

Tusker House

I love hanging out in Harambe. Sitting under the shade in the open-air Tusker House, enjoying a Tusker Lager, and listening to the street bands of Harambe is a relaxing respite from all of the Disney craziness. Don't get me wrong, I love Disney... but I also love to drink a beer and pretend for a minute that I'm exploring some far off corner of the globe that seldom sees Mickey Ears.
