South Battery Street

Charleston, South Carolina
February 11, 2017 by Matt Spangard

The homes on Charleston's famed Battery — also known as White Point Garden — are spectacular from the ground and a sight many are very familiar with. I sent the drone up for a different perspective on the grand homes. I'm really drawn to the unique rooflines, tile patterns and gardens throughout Charleston's most coveted neighborhood. I'd give just about anything to spend an afternoon lounging by that pool in the middle of the frame. In fact, that back yard has me ready to tear up our entire yard and build a replica in its honor.

Charleston Royalty I

Charleston, South Carolina
July 07, 2016 by Matt Spangard

Travel & Leisure is really trying hard to ruin a good thing. Yesterday, they moved Charleston up from #2 best city in the world to #1. The only thing that could really knock the city back down a notch would be if millions more tourists flocked to the city thanks to the publicity. Such is the double-edged-sword that such magazines wield. It will always hold a special place in my heart whether it's at the top or the bottom of the charts and if Charleston's long history has taught us anything, it's that Charleston is capable of handling extreme highs and lows as well as any other city in the United States.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Life on the Battery

Charleston Battery, Charleston, South Carolina
February 28, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I've mentioned before how much I love the Charleston Battery and South of Broad. Just look at the history of this place. Imagine the stories that have been told on these verandas. I always get a kick out of the houses in the French Quarter with beat up old cars out front. The great-great grandchildren of Charleston aristocracy holding on to the last vestige of their nobility. It's superficially beautiful and yet true at the same time. It just shows that the beat of time moves on but something tells me these great homes will remain and outlast us all.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone that just happens to be on sale $260 off at the moment!
