Plotagraph: Last Light Over Boneyard Beach

Boneyard Beach
October 06, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Boneyard Beach is named for the driftwood that is pulled in on the tide and deposited on the beach to be bleached bone white by the sun, salt and sand. It's a quick 30-minute excursion from Isle of Palms Marina and well worth the trip. The island really lights up as the sun sets, drawing long shadows on the "bones" that litter the beach.

This photo was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone and then converted to a Plotagraph.

Capers Island Dream

Capers Island, South Carolina
February 23, 2017 by Matt Spangard

During one of our past visits to Wild Dunes, we took the Delphinus from the Isle of Palms Marina to Capers Island for a sunset tour. As soon as we hit the beach, I sent up the drone for a different perspective. The forest off the beach is so thick, I'm not sure you could make it through if you wanted to on foot.

Click here to check out some of the photographs that I took on Capers Island.

This video was captured with my old DJI Phantom 2 but if you're in the market for a drone today, check out the DJI Mavic Pro.

Boneyard Beach Aerial

Capers Island, South Carolina
January 27, 2016 by Matt Spangard

Take a close look at Boneyard Beach and you will understand where the name comes from. Driftwood is pulled through the nearby channel, and deposited on the protected beach, where it is bleached by the sun amid other "bones" that have washed ashore over the years.

If you're visiting Charleston, call the owners of the Delphinus and charter a sunset tour of Capers Island and Boneyard Beach one evening. You won't be disappointed!

Delphinus I

Isle of Palms, SC
December 06, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Remember that photo of Alligator Lake from Thursday? If you want to go check out Capers Island and Boneyard Beach, give the captain of this boat — the Delphinus — a call. They ship out of the Isle of Palms Marina and do sunset and daytime exploration trips out to Capers Island every day.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.

Alligator Lake at Sunset

Charleston, SC
December 03, 2015 by Matt Spangard

This lake lies in the heart of Capers Island, which is one of Charleston's barrier islands. The main beach on Capers Island is called Boneyard Beach so it only seems fitting that the lake oasis in the middle of the island is full of alligators and all rivers leading to it look like snakes. This place is straight out of Peter Pan and it's amazing!

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.

Delphinus III

Isle of Palms Marina
November 11, 2015 by Matt Spangard

We took the dual-hulled Delphinus out to Capers Island on a typically beautiful Charleston summer evening to explore Boneyard Beach and chase the dolphins. We saw the Delphinus coming home to port at sunset a few nights later just as we were finishing dinner so I fired up the drone and took some photos of the crew who graciously hosted us earlier in the week. Big props to the ship and crew for making so many special memories for families every single night of the week!

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.
