Oktoberfest Party Time
Oktoberfest life goals. Be this guy (the guy with the hat, not the guy punching himself in the face).

These guys were the house band at Charlotte's Oktoberfest celebration at the Waldhorn restaurant last year. As always, the music, food and beer was great!
I pulled this one out of my archives because I was setting up a new TV antenna this weekend (buh-bye Time Warner!) and came across one of the secondary digital channels for a local PBS station that was playing the Lawrence Welk Show! That show instantly brought me back to the early 1980s, watching the Lawrence Welk Show with my grandparents at their house. It's neat when unexpected sights, sounds or smells bring back such vivid and happy memories :-)

After two consecutive Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools snow days (with an inch of snow on the ground, in the shade), the kids are finally going back to school today!
It's time to celebrate with a saying from the original Mecklenburg!
Zicke Zacke Zicke Zacke Hoi Hoi Hoi!

Happy birthday to Simon, my favorite 7 year-old in the world!

The Waldhorn restaurant just outside of Charlotte puts on a great Oktoberfest. The surrounding woods have trails that keep the kids entertained when they aren't on the dance floor. We always bring a glowstick for each of our kids. They really enjoy the glowsticks but more importantly, it makes it really easy to keep an eye on them as they zip through the woods. In fact, you can easily see Annika and her glowstick in this photograph. It's a bit like a game of Where's Waldo.
