USAF Jeep

Robins AFB, Georgia
October 10, 2016 by Matt Spangard

This well-restored Willys USAF Jeep is on display at the Aviation Museum at Robins Air Force Base in Warner-Robins, Georgia. You usually see original Jeeps in their matte Army Olive Drab color but this one looked striking in a glossy USAF blue.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

RQ-4 Global Hawk

Robins AFB, Georgia
October 03, 2016 by Matt Spangard

The RQ-4 Global Hawk is a high-altitude, long-endurance, remotely-piloted surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft.

The "drone" is piloted remotely by a crew of three and it can remain in the air continuously for up to 34 hours. With an operating ceiling of 60,000 feet and range of 12,300 nautical miles, it can fly half-way around the world without refueling.

Amortizing R&D, each unit costs over $200 million to deliver to the USAF.

This Global Hawk is on display at the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base in Warner-Robins, Georgia.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

de Havilland C-7A Caribou

Robins AFB, Georgia
September 08, 2016 by Matt Spangard

Developed in 1958, the de Havilland C-7A Caribou was known for its short takeoff and landing capabilities (STOL). Able to deliver 26 paratroopers or three tons of equipment over or on to short, improvised airstrips, the Caribou was developed just in time for the unique requirements of jungle warfare in Southeast Asia.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

SR-71 Blackbird

Robins Air Force Base, Georgia
January 03, 2016 by Matt Spangard

When I learned that there was an SR-71 Blackbird on display at Robins Air Force Base, I knew I had to check it out! This is the stuff childhood dreams are made of. I was even more blown away when I got there and found out that the Blackbird's stablemates in this hangar included an RQ-4 Global Hawk, U-2 Reconnaissance Aircraft and a MH-53 Pave Low!

If you ever find yourself in the middle of Georgia, you've got to check out the museum at Robins AFB!

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.
