Low Tide Sunset
The tidal marsh separating Figure Eight Island from Wilmington is massive and really lights up at sunset.
This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone that just happens to be on sale $260 off at the moment!

I took this photograph a couple of weeks ago. It was so cold that my drone warned me it was too cold to fly. It was such a beautiful sunset that I took the risk and picked an empty lot where it wouldn't hurt anybody if it plummeted to the ground and went straight up and back down for a couple of shots. I was watching the battery voltage like a hawk and taking it very easy on the throttle and collective to keep the battery from spiking and shutting everything down mid-flight. I think the flight lasted about three minutes but it was worth it!
On the horizon, you can see Crowder's Mountain on the right and the two plumes of steam on the left and right of the city (the right one is just next to the sun) are the two Duke Energy nuclear plants that serve the area. This shot also gives you a good view of the new light rail line that is going to connect NoDa to Uptown and south all the way to Pineville. It's going to be great for commercial development but I hope it doesn't destroy the spirit of NoDa... although it inevitably will :-(

We had a pretty epic sunset on Figure Eight Island, looking out over the Intracoastal Waterway. We had our cameras, tripods, phones and drones out capturing the moment and I realized that I'm always so busy taking pictures with my drone that I never actually take pictures of my drone. So here you have it, Drone Selfie at Sunset.

Boneyard Beach is named for the driftwood that is pulled in on the tide and deposited on the beach to be bleached bone white by the sun, salt and sand. It's a quick 30-minute excursion from Isle of Palms Marina and well worth the trip. The island really lights up as the sun sets, drawing long shadows on the "bones" that litter the beach.

Charlotte goes by many names. Most people have heard of "The Queen City" or even "The Hornet's Nest."
But Charlotte is also called "The City of Trees." This photograph makes it pretty clear that we've earned that nickname!

Sullivans Island may be the most relaxed, congenial place in the United States... and if it's good enough for Bill F***ing Murray, it's good enough for me. If Mr. F****ing Murray's shenanigans catch his house on fire, these are the guys who will 1) put it out and 2) drink a bunch of beer with him. Maybe not in that order.
They also have tremendous sunsets. All. The. Time. See the Ravenel Bridge on the horizon there? Those little bumps on the horizon right in the middle are downtown Charleston's greatest landmarks. What a beautiful place to be!

We took the dual-hulled Delphinus out to Capers Island on a typically beautiful Charleston summer evening to explore Boneyard Beach and chase the dolphins. We saw the Delphinus coming home to port at sunset a few nights later just as we were finishing dinner so I fired up the drone and took some photos of the crew who graciously hosted us earlier in the week. Big props to the ship and crew for making so many special memories for families every single night of the week!

Just off of Isle of Palms, Bulls Island is one of the most beautiful barrier islands of Charleston. Hire a boat from the IOP Marina and plan on taking a stroll along Bulls Island during sunset and you just can't go wrong... unless you head into the middle of the island to check out the giant lake that is home to thousands of alligators.
