This is the campus of Queens University in Charlotte from the air. What was once a relatively small college has really grown up!

Summer Fire Pit

The forecast this week in Charlotte is cold and rainy... here's a little throwback to the summer to warm things up. This is the fire pit at the Villages at Wild Dunes, captured from our balcony.

Imperial Roar

Chinese guardian lions — also known as "Foo Dogs" — adorn entrances to many buildings in China. They are said to have mystic protective powers. Originally, they were installed to protect imperial palaces and memorials but today, they are used just about everywhere... in this case, it is protecting a karaoke bar on the Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship.

Rebirth of a Forest

As we leave 2016 in the rearview mirror, this seems like an appropriate image. Forests require periodic fires to burn out the deadwood so they can regrow stronger and taller. Let's hope all of the challenges from this past year makes us stronger in 2017.

Cold Sunset in the Queen City

It's a cold day in the QC... This photograph was captured from Third Ward earlier in the year. The mound of dirt in the foreground is now a giant building on the land of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry. Charlotte just keeps on growing!

Trout Season

Falls Loop Trail on Beech Mountain loops around a peaceful trout stream with a waterfall and a wood-hewn bridge. It's a great little hike and is open for fishing April through February.

Incense

There are stalls filled with interesting vendors selling unique items around every corner at the Renaissance Festival. This vendor sold only incense and crazy incense holders.

Potions

The level of detail at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter really brings everything to life. This is a shop window high above the street.

Creations of Cervantes

Madrid's Plaza de España is home to a tremendous monument dedicated to Miguel de Cervantes. In addition to a tower, it includes a stone statue of Cervantes standing watch over his creations, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
