Sprinkles Cupcake ATM

Hyde Park
August 01, 2017 by Matt Spangard

In something out of one of those Simpsons episodes where Homer licks an Indonesian tree frog, the Sprinkles cupcake ATM is what dreams are made of. Need a cupcake fix at 2am? Hyde Park's Sprinkles has you covered!

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Hyde Park Village is a collection of shops and restaurants in the streets running through Tampa's historic Hyde Park. This "HP" logo was painted on a delivery roll-up door.

The Great Savannah of Sun City Center

Sun City Center, Florida
May 08, 2017 by Matt Spangard

When most people think of Sun City Center, they probably think of swimming pools and golf courses. Just beyond the tree line that marks the property boundary, the land turns into a vast, flat, undeveloped land that looks as if it is an oasis in a great African savannah. While you won't find Gazelles and Zebras running across the fields, you could very likely catch a wild boar doing what it does best: destroying everything it can get it's snout on.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.

University of Tampa

Tampa, Florida
February 03, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Today's photograph is in honor of my friend, Vera, who recently accepted a position at the University of Tampa!

The Tampa Bay Hotel was built between 1888 and 1891 by railroad magnate Henry B. Plant. A victim of The Great Depression, the hotel closed in 1930. In 1933, a junior college in Tampa moved in, eventually expanding and becoming the University of Tampa.

The hotel is an architectural jewel, blending "modern-day" concrete construction with Victorian and Moorish designs. Especially unique to most American architecture are the crescent moons adorning the minarets.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.

Oxford Exchange Marble

Tampa, Florida
February 01, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Tampa's Oxford Exchange is one of the best-designed retail houses I've ever seen. From the stunning marble tile when you enter to the open-air feel of the dining courtyard to the cigar store Indian guarding the bathrooms, every detail exquisitely adds to the sprit of a European street mall transported to the southern United States.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

Lightcycle Race

Tampa is a fun city and it really lights up at night! This photograph reminds me of the lightcycle races in Tron. Here's to Saturday nights!

Q*bert at Oxford Exchange

Tampa, Florida
July 25, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I've extolled the virtues of Oxford Exchange in the past. The brilliant design touches throughout the building bring a great European flair to Tampa. These caustic tiles are reminiscent of tiles found all over Spain and are likely sourced from Spain or North Africa, where they originated. This particular pattern reminds me of the 1980s videogame, Q*bert.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.
