Lowcountry by Boat

Charleston, South Carolina
December 21, 2015 by Matt Spangard

This photo feels right at home with the unseasonably warm weather we've been having in the Southeast this winter. This is one of the barrier islands on the north side of Charleston, taken while aboard the Delphinus.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

Parisian Metro II

Paris, France
December 19, 2015 by Matt Spangard

The art nouveau metro stops of European cities like Paris and Barcelona really set their style apart from the rest of the pack with their more modern, more legible and more boring alternatives. Look at that sign. What a great first thing to see when climbing the stairs from the underground tunnels of the metro. This particular stop is on the Louvre block so the background doesn't hurt, either.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

Gull's View

Isle of Palms, South Carolina
December 18, 2015 by Matt Spangard

By now, you've probably figured out that I love the IOP Marina! Soaring with the birds 400 feet above the marina is even better than sitting on the dock watching the boats go by... but neither is a match for heading out into the water by boat.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone. It's probably not too late to get one for Christmas!

Lake Tahoe at Speed

Lake Tahoe, NV
December 17, 2015 by Matt Spangard

You know how the photos you take of the amazing views from your car window always get ruined by a semi truck or a set of utility poles? I finally managed to capture one with neither! I present to you Lake Tahoe at Speed. There was a fantastic storm rolling over the mountains as we were driving into town. Since I wasn't driving, I thought I'd hang my head out the window and see what I could do.

This photograph really captures the feeling that I had looking out the window with the reflection of the ominous clouds on the Lake and the promise of a sunny day right around the corner.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

The Invasion Begins

Disney's Hollywood Studios
December 16, 2015 by Matt Spangard

The invasion begins tomorrow night with the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens!

What's the verdict? Will you be in line at midnight tomorrow night or do you want to give it a few days so you can actually hear the dialogue over the screaming fans? How about both?

Want to see this awesome AT-AT in person? Head on down to Disney's Hollywood Studios — soon to be Star Wars World (or something like that). It looms over the Jedi Training stage and really is as big as it looks!

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

The Black Cat Smiles at Midnight

Bruxelles, Belgium
December 15, 2015 by Matt Spangard

Brussels has a design aesthetic like no other. Take, for example this restaurant façade that looks more like a European playhouse than restaurant.

This Was North Wilkesboro Speedway

North Wilkesboro, NC
December 13, 2015 by Matt Spangard

North Wilkesboro Speedway was an active NASCAR race track from 1949 until it's closure in 1996. The last driver to win at North Wilkesboro Speedway was Jeff Gordon in September, 29, 1996. NASCAR royalty Junior Johnson attempted to purchase and restore the track in 2003 but the transaction failed due to a dispute between the two current owners. Despite a lot of cracks and a few sunken roofs, the track stands today as a time capsule to the early history of NASCAR.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.

Secrets Playa Mujeres Pool Flyover

Playa Mujeres, Mexico
December 12, 2015 by Matt Spangard

This is the fantastic pool at Secrets in Playa Mujeres, Mexico. I believe this was also taken on the very first flight of my DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone. Not a bad start!
