Restaurant Marrakesh

Morocco World Showcase, Epcot
July 17, 2016 by Matt Spangard

Have you ever eaten at the Restaurant Marrakesh in the Morocco World Showcase? I've always wanted to but on our last visit, we ate at Spice Road Table instead. It seemed that it might be a little more kid-friendly and we all really enjoyed it. If you have eaten there, how was it? I think we need to add it to our reservations list for our next visit.

Trail Map

North Carolina Mountains
July 16, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I love the angles and lines you get from the shadows when you shoot straight down over a forest. I was surprised on this flight to see that there's an entire trail system hidden below the trees. They're probably game or hunting tracks but I like to think there's a moonshine still somewhere up in those hills and these are the trails the local entrepreneurs use to outwit Boss Hogg and Roscoe.

Sunset Flight Over Isle of Palms

Isle of Palms, South Carolina
July 15, 2016 by Matt Spangard

We had dinner at Taco Mamacita on Sullivan's Island the other night and on the drive back, we could tell the sunset was about to be really spectacular. As we hit the bridge over Breach Inlet, we got those awesome long-range views over the marshes and I could tell we were quickly running out of time. The second we got back, I put the drone up and managed to get a few shots just before the sun set. I was pretty convinced I had missed it as I was getting the drone prepared for the flight but figured I should give it a chance, anyway. I'm glad I did!

Cooper River Rainstorm

Charleston, South Carolina
July 14, 2016 by Matt Spangard

We spent a fun morning on the water in Charleston harbor a couple of weeks ago. The weather was really nice for the first half of the morning and then these ominous clouds started rolling in.

Pictured here is the Ravenel Bridge (the second iteration of the "New Bridge" over the Cooper River) and the decommissioned USS Yorktown.

This photograph was captured with the amazing Sony a6300.

The Three Broomsticks

Hogsmeade Village, Scotland
July 13, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I was so excited to have lunch at the Three Broomsticks at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! The pub, in Hogsmeade Village, is pulled right out of the pages of the Harry Potter series. You can even get Butter Beer, Pumpkin Juice and several WWoHP-only beers during your visit. The pricing wasn't much more than you'd find in a traditional British pub in the United States and the food was comparable, too.

Gator Fountain

Wild Dunes, South Carolina
July 12, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I've been going to Wild Dunes since I was about six years old and I've always looked forward to seeing the alligators. They're all still there but many of their homes have been upgraded in recent years. If you were an alligator about town, you could do a lot worse than this nice little fenced-in pond, replete with fountain. It's even loaded with turtles and fish to snack on!

Magic Carpet

Nassau, Bahamas
July 11, 2016 by Matt Spangard

We took a cruise earlier this year on the Carnival Ecstasy. It has been recently renovated but it was like walking into a time capsule of 1960s "Rat Pack" Vegas. Case in point, the carpet. As our first cruise, we were naturally worried about vertigo and I've got to question the motives of the person who selected this (awesome) carpet for the common areas.

Terracotta Army

China World Showcase, Epcot
July 10, 2016 by Matt Spangard

These statues are replicas of several of the more than 6,000 life-sized terracotta statues guard the burial temple of Qin Shi Huang. Qin Shi Huang was the founder of the Qin dynasty and the first emperor of Unified China (221-207 B.C.). Emperor Qin's most memorable project isn't the massive mausoleum in which he is buried, though. His largest — and most memorable — project was the earliest version of China's Great Wall.

Linn Cove Viaduct II

Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina
July 09, 2016 by Matt Spangard

The Linn Cove Viaduct represents one of the most famous stretches of tarmac on the East Coast. Completed in 1987, the Viaduct was the final piece to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Villages at Dusk

Wild Dunes, South Carolina
July 08, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I took this photo a week ago tonight. Every summer, we spend a week staying at the Villages at Wild Dunes for a little beach and pool time. I grew up driving here from Chicago every summer and it sure has come a long way. Sometimes, I wish it was still the simple golf and beach community it once was but there's just so much to do. Wild Dunes has really done a great job of building out the Villages and the Boardwalk Inn hotel after Hurricane Hugo ravaged the area.
