Hog's Head & The Three Broomsticks

Hogsmeade, United Kingdom
May 18, 2016 by Matt Spangard

We had such a great time wandering around Hogsmeade Village at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Everywhere you turned, you would spot another detail recognizable from the series. This was shot with a 210mm zoom to bring the buildings into tighter formation. You can see the entrance to the Hog's Head in the foreground and the entrance to the Three Broomsticks in the background.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7 and edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Venetian Directions

Venice, Italy
May 17, 2016 by Matt Spangard

This pretty much sums up navigating Venice. Turn left or turn right, just keep on going. Sooner or later, you're going to end up in Piazza San Marco or on the Rialto Bridge and you can find your way home. Just keep on wandering. The more narrow the thoroughfare the better. You'll be fine and you'll encounter some spectacular sights along the way.

This photograph was captured with one of the first Sony Cybershot digital cameras and was edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Golden Lamps

Morocco World Showcase, Epcot
May 16, 2016 by Matt Spangard

These golden lamps light the American bar at the Spice Road Table restaurant. The restaurant is full of handmade Moroccan details, like these lamps. We ate on the terrace with a view of the World Showcase harbor.

On the Disney properties, any girl dressed up as a princess — such as our 3 year-old daughter — is always addressed as "Princess" by some sort of Mouse decree. It really made her feel special throughout the day. The staff at the Spice Road Table took it to the extreme and treated her like a princess, too, even wiping her messy face once when she was getting into her food just a little too much!

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7 and edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Mile High Sunrise

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
May 15, 2016 by Matt Spangard

The best sunsets I have ever seen are on the East Coast of Australia where the sun sets over the Outback and shines bright red as the dust from the desert refracts the light.

The best sunrises I have ever seen are on Beech Mountain. Every morning, it is a different spectacular view. As the highest town east of the Rockies, you wake up above the clouds more often than you do below the clouds. Either way, it's pretty much a win-win! If you want to see for yourself, spend a weekend at SlopesideNC.com!

Chrome City

Tampa, Florida
May 14, 2016 by Matt Spangard

Tampa has a really great riverwalk snaking around downtown. It's not very built up yet but you can tell it's on its way!

Oyster Reef

Ruskin, Florida
May 13, 2016 by Matt Spangard

We spent an afternoon out on the water fishing with my dad when we made our last trip to Florida. One of his regular spots turned out really hot. We spent more time pulling hooks out of fish and replacing stolen bait than we did fishing. An Osprey even swooped down and stole a shrimp off one of our hooks while we were all pre-occupied removing the hook from a sting ray that my son caught!

If you zoom in on this photo, you can see a bunch of orange puffer fish really close to the surface. They were really neat to watch chasing down the bait. They had to work really hard with those tiny fins but they made it work!

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone and edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Piazza

Italian World Showcase, Epcot
May 12, 2016 by Matt Spangard

Italy or Orlando? The Italy World Showcase transports you straight to Venice's Piazza San Marco. The iconic buildings and bell tower are scaled down a bit but are otherwise spot on. Epcot wins again!

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7.

Hog's Head

Hogsmeade, Scotland
May 11, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I had great expectations of the Hog's Head at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and it did not disappoint! They even had a house ale! Every once in a while, the head on the wall would start moving, bringing you deeper into the world of Harry Potter.

Despite the massive crowds outside, they did a good job of making it feel like a legit tavern. You could even stand at the bar and order a drink without waiting in a long queue or having to buy a ticket somewhere else.

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7 and edited with Adobe Lightroom.

The Left Bank

Paris, France
May 10, 2016 by Matt Spangard

The Golden Hour in Paris is a photographer's dream. There's not much to say about this photograph of the Left Bank other than it's a really nice way to remember Paris.

This photograph was captured with a Canon PowerShot SD780 IS and edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Krustyland

Krustyland, Springfield
May 09, 2016 by Matt Spangard

I'm pretty sure the premise to Krustyland at Universal Studios is to be the world's worst amusement park. You've got to give them props, too.  They really did try. However, it's Universal Studios, which means it's still top-notch. Even though you know your kid is never going to win that Bart Simpson doll on the pretty-much-completely-rigged "Swing Batter" game, there's still something special about aiming a baseball bat-like cannon at a picture of Krusty the Clown on the back of a carnival operator. Any place with a real-world Moe's Tavern and Duff beer is good enough for me!

This photograph was captured with a Sony NEX-7 and edited in Adobe Lightroom. Any resemblance to any character in the Simpsons is entirely intentional.
