Plotagraph: Fire Rings of the Lion King

Festival of the Lion King
September 24, 2017 by Matt Spangard

The Festival of the Lion King at Disney's Animal Kingdom is a great show. We always make a point to get a Fast Pass for it. We missed the Fast Pass window, though, on our last visit because a rogue giraffe stranded our truck out on Kilimanjaro Safaris for about a half an hour.

We ran to the Lion King show as soon as our safari tour was over but missed our window so we had to enter in the "regular" line about two minutes before the show started. They took us into the theater and sat us down right on the floor in front of the show!

Despite the fact that they pulled me up onto the stage and made me grunt like a warthog in front of the entire show, it was a great bit of luck! Stay tuned for many front-row photographs from the Festival of the Lion King in the coming months!

Bayern Munich Superfan Ryan Gibson

Blue Blaze Brewing
September 23, 2017 by Matt Spangard

With a Bayern Munich prosthetic eye and a huge heart for his team, Ryan Gibson is one of Bayern Munich's most recognizable fans. Ryan lost his eye to ocular melanoma but that only took his love for The Bavarians to the next level. Ryan uses his striking Bayern eye and big personality to draw attention and support to his team and the rare disease that took his eye.

Plotagraph: Sun Setting on Fort Moultrie

Fort Moultrie
September 21, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Sullivans Island and Charleston harbor are so peaceful it's hard to imagine the first shot of the Civil War was fired here when a shell fired from a 10-inch mortar burst just 100 feet above Fort Sumter, seen on the left of the horizon in this photograph.

The fort in the foreground is Fort Moultrie and the bridge in the background is the beautiful Ravenal Bridge.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 2 drone with a GoPro Hero3+ Black and then converted to a Plotagraph.

Warthog Carving

Disney's Animal Kingdom
September 20, 2017 by Matt Spangard

I saw this carving on a kiosk in Harambe Village at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I took a photo of it while the kids were in a gift shop. I didn't think much about it at the time — other than that it was a nice little piece of art. In hindsight, though, I really wish I had bought it. I'm not sure when our next trip to Disney will be but if they're still selling these carvings, I'm going to buy it on the spot.

Creekside Cave

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
September 18, 2017 by Matt Spangard

A lot of bears and coyotes call Beech Mountain home so it's always exciting when you discover little cave entrances like this one, hidden Voldemort-style in the base of a knotted tree trunk. Who knows what — or who — might be hidden on the other side of that shady hole? A quick peek won't hurt, will it?

This photo was captured with a Sony a6300.
