Charlotte, North Carolina
January 12, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Watching our cedar tree take on snow was a peaceful start to our day last Saturday.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Zicke Zacke Zicke Zacke...

Charlotte, North Carolina
January 11, 2017 by Matt Spangard

After two consecutive Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools snow days (with an inch of snow on the ground, in the shade), the kids are finally going back to school today!

It's time to celebrate with a saying from the original Mecklenburg!

Zicke Zacke Zicke Zacke Hoi Hoi Hoi!

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Snow in SouthPark

Charlotte, North Carolina
January 10, 2017 by Matt Spangard

It snowed on Saturday in SouthPark. Local meteorologists predicted 3"-8" of snow Friday overnight. We ended up with freezing rain all night that turned into snow Saturday morning. The snow broke around lunch so I sent up the drone for a few photographs. A fresh snowfall is always so peaceful and I think this photograph captures that.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Mavic Pro drone.

Estrella Damm

Barcelona, Spain
January 09, 2017 by Matt Spangard

FC Barcelona, Gaudí, Picasso and Estrella Damm are the four legs upon which Barcelona was built.

There is no better way to relax than to sit back with an Estrella Damm or Voll Damm in a square in Barcelona. I'd suggest Plaça del Rei or Plaça del Sol — the tourist books and pickpockets can keep the world-famous Plaça Reial.

This photograph was captured with a teeny-tiny Canon IXUS.

Lebauer Park

Greensboro, North Carolina
January 08, 2017 by Matt Spangard

Lebauer Park in Greensboro is a really fun place for kids to play. Check out the ice skating rink at the top of this photograph to put the size of the playground into perspective. It's huge! There are also a lot of elevation changes and cool things for kids to climb on. The spinning top and the rock climbing installation were particular crowd pleasers.

This photograph was captured with the tremendous DJI Mavic Pro drone.

Ski Beech Sunset

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
January 07, 2017 by Matt Spangard

This photo was taken last weekend over Beech Mountain Ski Resort. It's been a great start to the ski season and it's getting better by the day!

The brewery, shops, restaurant, Burton ski school, fire pit and ice rink are on the left and the ski rentals and main lodge are in the middle. Slopeside is the chalet on the right side of the photo.

This photograph was captured with the tremendous DJI Mavic Pro drone.

Peaceful Marsh

Figure Eight Island, North Carolina
January 06, 2017 by Matt Spangard

This marsh sits between Figure Eight Island and the Intracoastal Waterway that runs down the East Coast. It's an incredibly relaxing place to enjoy the sunset, even if it is January and there's nobody else on the island.

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.

Snowy Chalet

Beech Mountain, North Carolina
January 05, 2017 by Matt Spangard
“I don’t always take selfies but when I do, I’m so far away that you can’t even see me.”
— Me

If you look closely, you'll see me on the deck of this chalet, flying my DJI Mavic Pro. We headed up to the mountains for a little New Year's Eve celebration with friends and some fun in the snow last weekend. We were greeted by a snowstorm that lasted on and off for two days. It was perfect!

If you want to head up for yourself, check out Slopeside on Facebook.

This photograph was captured with the unbelievably good DJI Mavic Pro drone.

East Bay Street

Charleston, South Carolina
January 04, 2017 by Matt Spangard

We were out on the water in Charleston harbor just as the storm clouds started rolling in, pushing the gentle clouds from the morning away. The rain didn't start until we were back on land but the clouds did add a certain level of drama to the views. These grand homes on East Bay Street certainly have seen their fair share of drama over the years so the quick shift in tempremant was quite appropriate.

This photograph was captured with a Sony a6300.

Queens Campus

Charlotte, North Carolina
January 03, 2017 by Matt Spangard

This is the campus of Queens University in Charlotte from the air. What was once a relatively small college has really grown up!

This photograph was captured with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone.
